I imagine it would. Alcohol is very fattening as is fast food. I'd try to have a higher protein, low carb diet to start, along with your idea of eating less when you do eat a well balanced meal. I think you are on target with the brisk walking regimen. It seems to help lots of people faster than lifting weights or aerobics.

you dont have to exercise every day and if you did, do it for 30 minutes. dont strain yourself. definatly eating healthier will help as well. I even saw a difference just by cutting out soda and potato chips. now ice cream is a different story

First, walking is the best way to lose weight when you know you have a problem and you can't go out and run marathons or such. It's easy, it's fun, you can take your dog, your family members, and really anyone.
Here's how fat-burning works with the body. When you start doing an exercise like swimming, biking, walking, running, your body burns quick-energy stores of calories in your muscles. After about 20 minutes, you have depleted all the stores of these sugars and you start burning fat. The 20 minutes have to be continuous. So, walking 60 minutes once gives you about 40 minutes of pure fat-burning, while breaking it up into two 45 minute sessions gives you 50 minutes over a 90-minute period. It's your time, so you can decide how you want to do it, but it is definately better to do longer in one session then several short sessions, if you can spare the time.
If you can't go 60 minutes straight and you have to stop, then break it up and do a little more throughout the day. Do this every day, if possible. Walking is not like power-lifting or heavy aerobics, where you need a day or two to recover. Go every night, every afternoon, and every morning if you can. The weight you lose will stay off, too, if you don't change your eating habits. It's not the fastest way to lose weight, but it is the most effective and the best.

The best exercise plan is one that works. If you like walking and biking (and the amount of it you do makes you expend more calories than you eat) then your plan sounds perfect!!

i'd say if you are only going to go walking go for atleast an hour, running 30 minutes yeah but walking 30 minutes? come on now! you wanna wear a BIKINI not a 1 piece
here's what you should do:
simply keep your walking time the same, but alternate between moderate walking and walking briskly.
over time, you will find that you will be able to walk briskly for longer and longer periods of time… and eventually, with dedication and persistence, the day will come when you can walk briskly for the entire hour.
and when that day comes, you will have a feeling of great empowerment and achievement!!
just because you can't walk briskly for all that long now, dosen't mean you shouldn't try to work your way up to it.
you really do want to work your way up to distance and speed together for ultimate calorie burning.
and always perform your cardio immediately after resistance training for even more calorie blasting!!
Weight loss is never simple and success or failure depends largely on the individual. Your question is why is walking recommended for weight loss….
There are several good reasons:
1) Some exercise is better than none. It is of more benefit if you just get out there and do something rather than just stay inactive. For some, anything more strenuous than walking will not be done.
2) While it is true that the harder you work your body during a workout the more calories you burn, there is a major difference in where those calories come from depending on how fast your heart rate is. If you stay between 60 and 65% of your max heart rate (i.e. a lower intensity) you will burn fewer calories overall, but of those calories burned a higher percentage will be burned from fat. At a walking pace it is easier to stay in that "zone". Unfortunately, there is a slight misconception here….. take this example:
Low Intensity – 60-65% MHR
Total Calories expended per min. 4.86
Fat Calories expended per min. 2.43
Total Calories expended in 30 min. 146
Total Fat calories expended in 30 min. 73
Percentage of fat calories burned 50%
High Intensity – 80-85% MHR
Total Calories expended per min. 6.86
Fat Calories expended per min. 2.7
Total Calories expended in 30 min. 206
Total Fat calories expended in 30 min. 82
Percentage of fat calories burned 39.85%
So while you burned 50% of your calories expended at lower intensity from fat, you still only burned 73 cals vs. 82 cal at higher intensity.
