It's true. You can make a ton in this industry. Of course everyone is going to tell you they make great money--who ever says "My income is down the crapper with this business!" The reason most people wash out of this business is the same reason mortgage salespeople wash out--bad prospecting and no one to see. If you were successful in another sort of financial sales, selling complex intangible products to people, you'll do fine in the insurance business. I think you'll find a little more trust from your clients off the bat. After being in the mortgage industry for a year I went into insurance, where I've been for 4 years, and I felt a little more prestigious. Maybe it was all in my mind. Oh, by the way, find one or two lines you enjoy and make it your niche. I focus on health insurance and also annuities. I do cross sell life, disability and long-term care, but if you do too much you'll spread yourself too thin. Products and regulations change so fast is hard to become an expert on all of those products, especially for me as I represent 6 carriers. I would definitely start at a place like Northwestern Mutual, MetLife, New York Life, or New England Financial before going independent. They have great training and support programs for you as you learn the business. Plus you'll have the advantage of learning from top producers doing joint appointments. Good luck to you.

If it is anything like the state of MD, you should have no problem. Two separate tests, but many redundancies between the two made it rather easy.

Here is a link to a website that will help you. They offer online classes and they also offer classroom lessons. They also set-up the test and everything for you. How much time and cost depends on your state.

http://www.adbanker.com/

Once you get your license you will want to get contracted with various companies. I sugegest looking at various FMO's/Wholesalers who can help contract you with them. They tend to offer various trainings and support for you as well.

You will see their ads in magazines like Broker World and Agent's Sales Journal. Call a few of them and see what they have to offer.

Good luck to you.

No, you don't have to live there a certain period of time. Your life insurance can be purchased anywhere - but your health insurance should be from the state you're living in, as coverages vary by state, as do local providers.

Those are two totally separate and unrelated things.

If you have no access to employer or student health insurance, see an insurance broker that handles individual health policies. There are lots of different options available and it costs nothing to ask.

For life insurance, you first need to determine if you even NEED it now, and if so, how much coverage for how long? Start by reading the Yahoo Personal Finance section on life insurance.

my health and dental is thu the same company and i get billed for one total. i have auto deduct from checking account so dont have to worry about monthly billing or paying late and get cancelled.

why not call the company and ask if they can bill in 1 bill vs 3?
