Health Insurance – A Best Friend You Hate

When we search for a new job, the right benefits are very important, and health insurance is the number – one benefit since an employer that gives us health insurance can save us the hundreds of dollars a month that we would have to pay out of pocket for private health insurance. But not all good jobs offer these needed benefits. What then?
Some people feel that going without health insurance is okay, but they are being short – sighted. The most important thing about having it is the fact that it prepares us for the unexpected; and since crises seldom happen on an ideal schedule, it is very important to be prepared at all times. You are in luck, though. Health insurance benefits are not really hard to find; if you can flip a burger, you can find good company – paid health insurance option. You can even sometimes find it just for working part – time at some local or chain coffee shops.
It is not so much a matter of getting the medical treatment that you need, because hospitals cannot reject you just because you can’t afford to pay. But if you lack health insurance and you cannot pay, having a health problem can quickly put you deep in debt. Going without health insurance can destroy your credit, and with it your chance of buying a house, or even getting a credit card or being hired in the right new job. Going without health insurance can wreck your life.
So as much as we may hate the cost of health insurance, it is very important to have it when we need it. If you are already paying for it now and you never seem to need it, just be thankful for your perfect health… but problems can strike at any time small and big. Nobody who has suffered a serious health condition has ever regretted having paid for health insurance! Keep that in mind when you debate skipping health insurance to save a few hundred dollars per month: it may help you make ends meet in the short term; but then again, it may ruin your life if tragedy were to strike.
What if your dream job provides no benefits? That’s fine. You can buy the same health insurance on your own. You can afford to skip dental and vision insurance, since you can probably meet those costs on your own; but you must have a good health insurance policy to protect you against the worst possible disasters. There are a few web sites such as http://www.usinsuranceonline.com/health-insurance-quotes.php which are dedicated to finding you the best current prices for health insurance on policies of almost infinite variety. Just by filling out a quick form, you can have multiple quotes within minutes, so you can compare the rates and coverage and deductibles side by side and make the best possible choice for you.

Help answer the question about health
How will health care be affected by legalizing marijuana?Hey everyone. I need help on answering this question: How will health care access, cost, and quality be affected by the passage or defeat of a bill legalizing marijuana. The bill is AB 390, but i just need some answers on the affect of health care by legalizing marijuana or not. I've done some research but I need a little more. Thanks.

@MiaoPurrington I concede though that the world is a lot more complex than some libertarians would like to believe, and that doing things such as putting our dollar back on the gold standard now would only send our creditors dumping their dollar reserves, 1 trillion, and running for the door. I wonder if such imperialist actions, such as controlling oil, propping up our fiat currency, etc. Are necessary to our survival as a nation, since we hardly manufacture anything.
Holy crap! I thought I was messed up!
I would feel over the moon if my parents had managed to get almost a million dollars, but I would be happy for them, not happy that I can waste it.
You should of felt appreciative that they left you live in their house at 27 AND actually gave you access to the bank account. I would not think about a casino trip as the first thing to waste money on, why would you gamble when you have that much money? That's obviously going to end up as a disaster.
But how could you possibly withdraw so much of your dad's hard-earned money? That is so selfish and wrong! Especially when they was thinking of treating themselves to a vacation home, that they deserve!
You do not deserve to spend 100% of your dads hard-earned money, when you are an unemployed 27 year-old waste of space!
I am totally not surprised that your parents aren't speaking to you, that's not even including your Dad's heart attack. Your Dad probably thought he didn't need good health insurance because he had all that money in the bank, and probably didn't expect a heart attack from seeing his balance was 0!
You should sell your paintings, get a proper full-time job and start paying your parents back if you want them to talk to you again.
@MiaoPurrington But I also wonder if we would have been better off staying a Libertarian nation from the beginning. Our dollar has dropped 95% since the federal reserve regime came to power. In spite of our spending, I wonder if we’d be richer today if we kept the dollar attached to precious metals. Though we wouldn’t wield much of a bargaining chip with China as we do now, but would our overall hypothetical boost in wealth make up for that.
lol..
your a new one.
I prefer individual person with independent thoughts that may come from my unique experiences and perceptions. I hate either or questions.
I've suffered from narcolepsey for over 30 yrs.. I am chronically fatigued and have zero energy. Doctors say I am depressed… No S@*T !!! I've tried every antidepressant at least twice to no avail, along w/ numerous other heavy duty drugs doctors 'try' me on after meating w/ me after one or two 10-15 min. visits… Lamictal, Abilify, Ativan, Ambien, Zyprexa, Seroqel, Xanax, Lithium – to name a few. I'm SO tired from being tired my whole life that it's making me crazy! Doctors are WAY too quick to put people on these hardcore drugs w/out knowing the underlying problem!
Anyway, the only times in my life that I can remember feeling 'awake,' alert, alive, motivated, energetic, painfree, lust for life… was when I had Vicodin and another time when my mother gave me some of her methadone a few years ago. I accomplished more in one day than I typically do in one month (seriously.) In an average day, if I manage to bathe and get dressed, it's 2 or 3pm by the time I am 'ready!' (ready for what? to go back to bed!) The methadone had the same effect as Vicodin but it lasted much longer. I know Vicodin has acetaminophine in it which causes liver damage if you take too much.
I have non-chalauntly brought this up to a Dr. in the past. The Dr. said if any drug gives you a feeling of euphoria, it's a sure sign to stay away from it because it will become addictive. (??? I took his advice and steared clear of it and have 'lived' a miserable, unproductive, weak, tired life for the past 25 years. I guess that's better than being addicted to a drug that would've made me euphoric!) I was afraid to ever bring it up to a doctor again because they would think I am a 'drug seeker.'
I have since been to dozens of docs, shrinks, counselors, etc. and spent thousands of dollars on other meds and gotten addicted to pills that have horrific side effects then to have to suffer the even more horrific withdrawls… (but doctors think this is OK, yet GOD forbid we tell them opiates make us feel better! That classifys 'us' as drug addicts!)
I got the nerve up to tell a shrink about it a yr. or so ago. He said he's heard opiates sometimes have an alerting or arousing effect on some people and he mentioned an alternate to methadone called suboxone. He didn't really pursue the topic and I never had the guts to bring it back up again@ Since then, I have been prescribed all the above mentioned drugs, plus!
I am now seeing a new shrink and I am trying to muster up how to confront him w/ this same 'treatment.' I decided to do some research to see if opiates (methadone,) has been successful in treating others w/ depression, fatigue, etc…
I don't know why I am so ashamed to want to feel better. I'm nearly 50 yrs. old and I know there is a drug that relieves my symptoms but I'd rather spend the rest of my life tired and miserable than chance letting a doctor label me as a drug addict. Wouldn't anyone want to be addicted to a drug if it gave them a chance to live a better quality life?
Why am I (or you) so 'afraid' ? I know damn well over half the drugs I've been prescribed over the yrs. are ten times more mind altering and addictive than methadone. The withdrawl symptoms from the other meds are excruciating!
I don't know… I'd rather be addicted to methadone than sleep the rest of my life away, I don't have that many 'healthy' yrs. left. I want to be awake for them!
So – how do we confront the docs w/ our solution?
I was going to suggest that someone tell her therapist until you stated that she knows. I think you're doing what is appropriate – leaving it in the hands of her therapist. There is no way you can possibly know how she will react to this. If she is told, it needs to be in the therapists' office so that she can handle any emotional fallout. If your cousin asks you later why you didn't tell her, that is what you will explain.
In the meantime, just spend time with her and keep it as "normal" as possible.
This man needs to grow up and get with the program. He has no clue about responsibility. He's immature and expects everyone else to support him. He's not worth your time. Your better off without him. Why would you want the stress?
I’m very worried about Rand Paul getting into politics…
I graduated from college with a BA in Business Admin, which is pretty useless in today's economy and was just as useless four years ago. I worked a full-time job for a little over a year and saved some money. I was living at home, going crazy working an 8 to 5 job, and loathed the post-college social norms.
I said the hell with all of it and took off to South America. I lucked out by having family in Chile, saving some money, having my parents help me, and getting some credit cards. I ended up traveling through South America for a year, learning Spanish and Portuguese, making friends from all of the world, and creating a new bond with my family abroad. Money cannot buy experience. Money can't teach you a second language. I was so ignorant to the world around me, even through out college and after. I was truly a brainwashed ignorant little brat.
You need to LEAVE the country if you want to grow up. You will be forced to learn a new culture, a new language, a new way of life. You will value what you have, the friends and family members that care about you, and respect and cherish other cultures/people/nations. You will return home a new man, full with new ideas and a whole new outlook on life. You are 23 YEARS OLD! If you are ever going to travel, it's going to be now. When you're 35 with a wife and two kids, a mortgage, car payment, and a JOB – do you think you'll be able to leave the country for more than a week? Didn't think so.
I left when I was 22, got back when I was 23. I was working two part-time jobs and going to school for a year. Now, I'm 25 and have a full-time job. I work 9-5 every day, wear a suit to work, and am the happiest person alive. You know why? I practice my Spanish everyday at work, am hoarding cash for my next trip later this year, and could give a **** about the economy because it's going down, down, down, and planning on living a broad 5-10 years down the road. Our nation is headed on a collision course with a wall, and from the looks of it, there is no stopping it. And this all because I decided to leave the country and GROW UP.
I leave you with this:
Join a non-profit in another state or country
Join the peace-corp.
Work for an NGO.
Teach English abroad.
Start a blog or write a book, abroad of course.
Cheap places abroad where your dollar will go far: Thailand, Argentina, Prague
No WIFE
No KIDS
No JOB
No ****ing worries!
(read it off a wall in a hostel somewhere in Argentina)
I hope this changes your life. GOOD LUCK.
@rockhardxrocker Agree that the last line of my comment was excessive. Sorry I didn’t provide the information to back up my stance, but I am lazy so bear with if you can. If you can’t feel free to bash. Thank you
It took you 5 years to get a liberal arts degree? Why'd you even get that? You claim to be bright but it is known that those degrees are useless for the most part, unless you plan to go to graduate school or further.
No, being your own boss isn't the only way to make it. I don't think doing 'some online thing' is going to make you much, if any money..and just seems like you trying to get something for nothing. Like you said, everyone is doing it..and unless you have some new thing you plan to implement.. I would just pass.
I do think running your own business would be good for you. Just by reading this, I can tell you are someone who wants to do things on your own set schedule. Unfortunately, that will be hard for you to do. I doubt a bank will give you a loan. With the economy the way it currently is, they have got much more strict on who they give them too. For someone with no experience running a business or any education in business, it will be even more difficult.
I don't suggest getting a girl pregnant..heh. I must say I was much the same as you (cept much more bright =P jk) anyways I got a girl pregnant and still didn't 'shape up' for some time.
I just suggest you go out and get a job. I know I felt something like fast food was beneath me, so I'm sure you do as well.. so I won't suggest that. Maybe try to put your information systems degree to good use. You say you can fix computers.. put an ad in the paper offering your services for less than any of your local shops do. You may not be able to do what you want to in life RIGHT NOW..but once you at least get a job and save up some money..then it'll be much easier to follow your own dreams, like starting up a business or whatnot.
Also, since you already have a bachelor's you could go back to school and get a masters. Maybe an MBA to give you some business background. Or whatever you like.. you could get a Masters in Information Systems since you are into that. It's just a couple more years.. and you aren't doing anything else anyways, haha.
at least Ron had the guts to say the last administration did help with this fuck up! dickhead bush.
@MiaoPurrington I’ve looked into different political philosophies, and limited gov seems to make sense. Is there something I’m missing? Or are you the liberal type to just call libertarianism “racist”, for some arbitrary reason, and side step the entire argument to then relish in your satisfied self righteous unwarranted elitism?

I actually like Ron Paul for a time. But the Libertarian label is a guise and their views is a throwback to pre-Civil rights ethos that are frankly unnecessary and counterproductive. Ron is full of shit and his son is overflowing with shit.
I don't know if SF is the best choice for you, a suburb around SF might be a little better idea. The winters aren't cold in SF compared to NE but you'll probably find the summers pretty cold, especially in western SF near the ocean. And it's always cold at night and in the morning the bay area; it never stays above 60 at night there. During the day in SF it's usually 60-68 during summer and the wind and fog just suck. Suburbs in the east bay and penninsula are warmer, especially ones in inland valleys. I grew up in Walnut Creek and it's in the 80's during summer. And if you hate snooty people you will probably not like the city of SF. That place is full of pseudo-intellectual, pretentious snobs that think they know everything. People in the Bay Area are really cool and down to earth overall, but the cities of SF and Berkely are a whole another story. SF attracts a lot of weirdos, psuedo-intellectuals, and some of the most arrogant, narrow minded "liberals" you will ever meet. I'm not conservative or trying to talk bad about liberals, but "liberal"takes on a whole new meaning in SF. The city is just too PC and full of self righteous pricks. Avoid SF, Marin County, and Berkeley b/c some of the people there. The East Bay has the most down to earth and laid back people.
If you have your heart set on the Bay Area then try some of the other suburbs. Walnut Creek is a great suburb with one of the best downtown scenes in the Bay Area and is a highly desriable area. But if you are not set on the Bay then check out San Diego. The weather is much better than the Bay Area and if you hate seasons and weather changing then you'll like San Diego; pretty much sunny and mild year round and usually around 70-75, low humidity and it rarely rains.
People in SD are really nice, down to earth, and really laid back. I think the nice weather puts people in a good mood too. People down here are not pretentious at all; you see 40yo professionals wearing board shorts and flip flops all year long riding around on a beach cruiser. And there are a lot of tranplants from New England here, especially Boston, and not the snooty ones too. So you'll probably meet people from your area, especially at the Boston Red Sox bar in Ocean Beach. Housing is also cheaper in SD than in the SF Bay Area, you can get a place near the beach for less than what you'd pay for some crappy 100 year old apt in SF. SD isn't as nearly as crowded or congested as SF either. It's still a big city with tons to do, but kind of has a small town atmosphere to it. There is always something going on or something to do; you can be outside year round so if you like the outdoors or sports it's a great place for that. And the scenery is great; beautiful beaches, mountains and desert close by, and most communities are built on top of mesa's bisected by wide, natural canyons so there is a lot of open space within the city. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I was born and raised in the Bay Area and have lived in San Diego for the past six years.
