Diabetic Diets

After being diagnosed with diabetes, one has to come to terms with it and make a few changes to their lifestyle. At the most, they will be put on a new diet plan. One does not have to skip meals or avoid eating food that one has always loved completely in order to follow a diet plan. In fact, skipping meals only increases the sugar levels in one’s body.
For instance, fried, pureed or oily items can increase one’s blood sugar levels. Choose foods items that can act as a healthy substitute to these such as low fat dairy, meat substitutes, green vegetables and fruits.
A diabetic diet is a balanced diet featuring fresh fruits, vegetables, fats, proteins and most dairy products. Although diabetes cannot always be completely cured, it can be brought under control. It is essential to moderate one’s food intake and do regular exercise in order to maintain a healthy diet.
Eating fibrous food items can also reduce one’s weight considerably. These also help reduce the sugar levels in turn. Some instances of fibrous foods are oat bran, beans, rice bran, and cereals and so on. Garlic helps keep diabetes at bay. It is rich in potassium, zinc and sulphur and helps reduce blood-sugar levels.
Avoid salty foods, as they can increase sugar levels. Since one might already get enough salt from vegetables or other natural foods, they should reduce its intake.
Last but not least one should be constantly in touch with a physician who can help them to not only prepare an effective diet, to also take steps to keep their diabetes under control.

Help answer the question about diet
Does a low carb diet lower the amount of good bacteria in your gut?If I go on a low carb diet, will it lower the amount of good bacteria in my gut?
Also, if I take probiotics, will they be able to be sustained in my gut on a low carb diet or will the probiotics be ineffective in providing benefits if I am on a low carb diet?
Thanks.

Generally, the sweeter the fruit, the higher the sugar content. But it's never good to eat fruit that hasn't ripened; that can lead to gastrointestinal problems, and there is honestly little difference between sugar content amongst the safe-to-eat "ripening range" of most fruit.
The best thing to do with fruit is to stick to temperate-region fruits like plums and apples and pears, which have lower sugar contents, and avoid the tropical fruits like pineapples, oranges, bananas and coconut.
Ok this is stupid. I’m MUCH thinner than her and a lot of the stuff she’s saying is very incorrect.

This site is good.
It's important for diabetics to keep the blood sugar level fairly constant. Your sister should see a dietitian as soon as possible.
if you are thinking about losing weight check out my blog I have great tips for you
It's got to be the right kinds of carbs. Carbs that are high in refined sugars and white flour will spike and/or crash a diabetics insulin levels.
Slow digesting carbs, like brown rice, yams, wheat and whole grains, work slowly gradually balancing the sugar levels. They don't overload the system so to speak.
The problem with high protein diets is they are hard on your digestive systems. Pancreas, Gallbladder, Kidneys, can all get messed up if they get too much protein. Their is a medical name for it, Ketosis? I think. Something like that, the exact name escapes me.
Have you considered that in order to loose weight you need to also be relaxed. Eating when stressed or feeling pressured to loose weight only sets you up to fail. Relaxation is an important element so too visulizations . Jonathan Robert Banks is an expert in relaxation techniques. His CD’s guide you to relax, visualize, recover, and rehearse your goals. Really they are a part of self nurturing and daily routine for you. U-tube yourbraintraining , google – relaxationforme All the best

@exposing31 Might I suggest wheatgrass juice? It is by far the most alkaline food one can consume on a per weight basis. grown from red winter wheat berries at home.
Actually your Doctor could of referred you to see a nutritionist. Members of my family who are diabetic/border line diabetic have all been given a custom made nutritional list of items to eats with the appropriate portion sizes to help keep their sugar down. Cut down on the carbs.
I have provided a link that will help you with your nutritional needs.
exelent presentation !! i really like to have some more of this…i tried so many diets last year with no success so far !!
ediets.com has a good diet plan for diabetics….if you can't do the whole plan, at least you can get some ideas?
Also, sparkpeople.com has a good one…and it's a free site.
I read that blue corn tortilla chips were recently found to help with regulating blood sugar.
@Endymion766 If that were true then starving children in India wouldn’t have distended stomachs and diabetics and women that gave childbirth would have an easy time losing weight as well.
Speak with your doctor about this, and ask that he give you a prescription to speak with a nutritionist at the hospital.. There may also be a support group in your area for people with diabetes.. where everyone can share their experiences, and help one another. Good luck to you on this my friend..
