If you've used it, and you are paying for it yourself and aren't in a group plan, I don't even have to look at your sources, I know we need changes.
What bothers me is that we are so close minded about it. That facts that I know from experience are glossed over by those that simply repeat Rush's morning monologue. We believe more in rhetoric than we do in what we know to be true.
Insurance costs too much, isn't practical, doesn't cover what you need.
Young people get sick too, and the costs are astronomical, yet they tend to think of it as an old folks problem. They also think Medicare pays for everything, and they don't understand that a person contributes to it their whole working lives and still needs to pay more out of pocket to cover the costs.
So they aren't in favor of any health care at all, until they need it.
Old people have seen how often their friends are left with huge bills for needed surgeries how the social services can wipe out the small estates they were planning on leaving their kids, maybe just a small home, but that goes to pay off their hospital bills, making the elderly worry about losing Medicare coverage is just cruel.
There is more emotion that sense in opposing both the public option for insurance, and universal coverage. But then, the insurance companies are the largest donors to both parties.
I agree..in fact, we are the only industrialized country without universal health care. Here it is privatized, meaning its just about money…Sad and Greedy.
I agree with Mr. Dane and think Ms. Palleiro is a whiny brat who needs to work her way through college if she is so smart and wants it so bad. I did. It took me eight years to get my Bachelor's degree because I had to go to school part time and work.
Go back to your country of origin and see if you would get a better deal. You wouldn't have even got the high school diploma which you basically stole from American taxpayers. Why is this woman's story in the news? She and her parents should be rounded up and sent back. She is also taking a job from a LEGAL citizen. We have double digit unemployment, illegals go home!
For the most part you have a good idea. The only problem is that someone who makes $13,500 a year cannot afford 20% if they plan on eating and having shelter too. However, a person making $3.5 million can certainly afford more than 20%, no matter what. You've got to consider costs of living (real needs, not fancy pants wall to wall showers and crap) in your equation. But you're certainly on the right track.

How do private universities compete with public, state-funded universities that don't have to worry about making a profit?
By your logic, why do private schools still exist?
EDIT, still to Lurch: If you didn't believe that private insurance companies would provide better health care, you would helplessly support the public option. People who do not support the public option argue that the government-funded care would be of a lower quality. And how am I comparing apples to oranges? Just because you say I am doesn't mean you're correct.

Yes Health Care is bad in this country, but this bill does nothing to make it better.
This bill does the same things O's other bills do – redistribute wealth and consolidate power for the Democrat Party.
If you read the bill – you will come to the same conclusion.
Health care reform should be a single payer, socialized, Medicare for all type system like every other developed nation in the world already has. There should be no such thing in the U.S. as private health insurance. The basic concept of a profit driven health care industry is barbaric.
